GPAC Swims Fast In Mobile

Thirty GPAC swimmers drove the short distance to compete in the Vance Rose Invitational hosted October 19-21 in Mobile.  Led by a strong 12 and under group, GPAC placed fifth overall.

Leading the way for GPAC was Renee and William Henderson, 10, who each placed 3rd overall in the points race.  William captured three individual wins (100 Br, 50 Br, 100 IM) and took second in three others.   Renee won the 500 freestyle, dropping 7.38 seconds, and was runner-up in four other events.

Not to be outdone, James Henderson, 12, once again took fourth place in the points race, dropping time in all eight of his events. He took third place in six of his individual events.

Representing the Senior team, Tatiana Oberley, 14, took top honors in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke races, and teammate Catherine Petruska, 15, swam life-best times in her events and placed third in the 500-yard freestyle.

Alex Atherton, 10, and Noah Scoggins, 9, each posted new Southeastern championship qualifying times in the 50 and 100-yard butterfly, respectively.  Both swimmers have now qualified in both butterfly events for the meet in February.

Congratulations to the GPAC swimmers who posted all best times at the meet: Paul Ashton, James Henderson, Jack Menzies, Adriana Rivera and Katherine Turner.

“This was a solid meet for us,” Head Age Group coach Greg Johnson commented.  “We posted over 57 percent best times, and the swimmers got some great competition from swimmers around our area.”
