GPAC Swimmers Win Again in Mississippi
Taking advantage of the second long course meet this month, thirty-three GPAC swimmers traveled to Laurel, MS to, once again, claim top honors as a team and drop tremendous time. Posting overall 77% best times, the swimmers combined to drop over 20 minutes in their events!
“It was exciting to see the swimmers perform so well,” said Head Coach Philip Kraus. “We knew the swimmers were dropping a lot of time, and it was fun to watch.”
Leading the way for GPAC were the Henderson brothers, James, 12 and William, 10. James won all eight of his individual events, and posted life-best times in each. James also got a new Southeastern qualifying time in the 400m freestyle. William also won all eight of his individual events, posting life-best times in six. Renee Henderson, 10, won seven of eight events, posting best times in six, including a ‘AAAA’ time in the 50m breaststroke, narrowly missing the GPAC team record. She also achieved a new Southeastern time in the 200m IM. All three Hendersons were high point winners in their respective age groups.
Brooke Ferrara, 15, represented the GPAC Senior team, winning eight of her ten events, including her debut in the 1500m freestyle! Brooke set four new life-best times, en route to her high point victory in the age group.
GPAC boasted several other event winners at the meet including: Coulson Barfield, 13 (100 Fly), Ethan Beaver, 10 (100 Bk), Sophia Diagne, 14 (100 Br), Anna Jordan Luth, 13 (200 Br), Peyton Parra, 14 (100 Fly), Walker Parra, 11 (800 Fr, 100 Br), Heidi Schellin, 15 (200 Br), and Olivia Weekley, 16 (200 Fly).
Many swimmers collected new Southeastern championship qualifying times at the meet: Alex Atherton, 10 (100 Br, 400 Fr, 200 IM, 100 Fly), Ethan Beaver (50, 100 Fly),Paige Bridges, 9 (50, 100 Bk), Makayla Ludwick, 11 (50 Bk), AJ Luth (100, 200 Br), Maren Mackey, 9 (200 Fr), Tatiana Oberley, 15 (50 Fr, 200 Fly, 400 IM), Walker Parra (50 Fr, 50 Fly), Heidi Schellin (100 Bk), Noah Scoggins, 9 (100 Fly, 200 IM, 400 Fr), Seth Scoggins, 11 (200 Fr, 50 Br), and James Tracey, 11 (200 Fr).
