Landon Garcia picked for USA Swimming’s regional diversity camp

Landon Garcia, a member of GPAC’s Senior Green training group, was selected to attend the Southern Regional Diversity Select camp that will be held in Houston, TX June 1-4. Landon is GPAC’s first swimmer to make or attend a USA Swimming select camp since the pandemic put a halt to these camp experiences for the swimmers, and the first since William Henderson attended the camp in 2017.

Landon, 14, applied and was selected for the camp based on his eligibility from an impressive IMX score, as well as hitting the qualifying times to be considered.

The camp will feature swimmers from across the country—as far out as Nevada, Utah and Texas. Swimmers at the camp will get four in-water practices during the camp, as well as featured talks and workshops focused on the viability of multicultural success in swimming, as well as empowering the athletes to be positive leaders and role models that other athletes of diverse cultures can emulate.

According to USA Swimming, “To further evolve the Diversity Camps pathway and identify emerging young, diverse athletes in varying regions and offer a unique motivational and educational experience, USA Swimming will resume the Regional Diversity Camps in 2023. This integral step will help athletes move from the local and regional level onto the national scene.”

GPAC is proud to have Landon represent not just the team, but the inclusion of all swimmers that it serves. Landon will join fellow local swimmer Malik Capell from Seastars Aquatics at the camp.
