In the last few weeks, almost all of the GPAC Senior team have been busy wrapping up the high school season. Another remarkably large team of GPAC swimmers traveled to Mobile the second weekend in October to take a third place team finish at the Vance Rose Invitational. Nine members of the GPAC Junior group were recently named to the Southeastern Swimming All-Star team, many of whom have made consecutive appearances on the All-Star lists over the last three years. The SES All-Star team is made of swimmers who are 14 or under, was a Southeastern champion in an individual event, posted a top-5 time in the event which there is a SES record, or had a top-5 IMX score. Senior team member Nate Thomas, 17, has been named to USA Swimming’s Academic All-America team for 2012-2013. This is Nate’s first time receiving this award and he was one of only 35 other swimmers in the LSC to get named to the list. This year, only 1353 swimmers from across the U.S. made the select team. More than 115 new and returning GPAC swimmers met Saturday at UWF’s aquatic center to begin the 2013-2014 season. The team hosted an all-ages team time trial to give new swimmers experience in a competition setting, and veteran swimmers a chance to post some early season best times. GPAC’s Brooke Ferrara, in her third consecutive appearance on the Southeastern Swimming Zone Team, took the medal stand six times, four for relays and twice individually, at the 2013 Southern Zone Age Group Championship held in Greenville, SC July 30-August 3.
